About the Awards
The ASATA Diners Club Awards provide an opportunity for the travel industry to acknowledge those individuals in travel who inspire their colleagues through their superb attitude, expertise, dedication and passion. ASATA and Diners Club South Africa relaunched these prestigious ASATA Diners Club Awards in 2013 to honour industry achievers who have made their mark in the preceeding year. Once again in 2016 ASATA and Diners Club South Africa will honour those elite few in the travel industry who epitomised the 21st Century Travel Professional in 2015.
A travel professional should be the 'go to person' when the customer chooses to travel; too often the traveller opts to go it alone, sometimes not knowing all the ramifications of complex travel arrangements. It is important that travel consultants constantly upgrade their expertise to gain the respect and trust of the public, and ultimately to be seen as a reliable source of travel advice. These awards are aimed at recognising those individuals who consistently add value to the customer’s experience, create loyalty through excellent customer service, and have an edge with regards to products on offer and destination knowledge. These individuals understand all the details and cost implications when making a travel booking and assist the client in times of crisis.
ASATA and Diners Club have identified eight award categories, six of which are aimed at the leisure and corporate travel consultant, with two categories for wholesale consultants working on specialised individual or group bookings. Two special categories were launched in 2013, namely, Exceptional Commitment and Tomorrow’s Leader.
The nominee for Exceptional Commitment must have actively participated in the betterment of the industry and volunteered their time and knowledge towards shaping the industry, as well as demonstrated an understanding of the ASATA ethos.
The Tomorrow’s Leader category is aimed at those individuals who show leadership qualities and make a positive contribution in their company and ultimately the industry. The award acknowledges and encourages young future leaders entering travel as a career of choice. It is envisaged that the nominees for this award, as well as the finalists and the winner will assist in promoting and advancing the Young Travel Professionals group.
ASATA was formed in 1956 to create a representative forum in the industry to promote professional service and security for members and their clients. Currently members of ASATA (Southern African retail travel agencies, travel management companies, wholesale tour operators and partners) represent more than 85% of the industry including the head offices of most of the major travel brands. The make-up of the membership base is directly related to SA travellers heading outbound from Southern Africa.
The Association interfaces with key opinion leaders in the industry and senior Government officials in representing its members on all issues of common interest to ASATA Members. This includes policy, planning, operational and regulatory issues ensuring the ongoing sustainability of the travel industry.
